Chislehurst - Simply Divine - churches walk

Sunday 25 September, 2pm (duration approx. 3hrs)

Meet  by main Lychgate to St Nicholas Church (on Manor Park Road opposite Tigers Head)

St MarysSpend a leisurely afternoon exploring three contrasting churches that contribute to the unique character of Chislehurst. At the end of the walk you may wish to have a drink in one of the local pubs.

The circular walk will begin and end at St Nicholas Parish Church.

The afternoon will begin with visit to the medieval parish church of St Nicholas. We will then walk along the attractive woodland path across the common to visit the Victorian parish church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the High Street.  We will walk back across the common for our final visit to the Roman Catholic Church of St Mary on Crown Lane (shown left in an old print). It is a short walk from St Mary’s along Hawkwood Lane to return to St Nicholas Parish Church where the walk will end.

Note: St Nicholas is a medieval church originally linked with the manor of Scadbury and graces the heart of the “old village” of Chislehurst. The Annunciation was built in 1868-70 and serves the parish of West Chislehurst. It was designed by architect James Brookes and is noted for its Victorian Gothic Revival

The walk will be led by Jonathan Fenner.
